French AI company Mistral AI has taken another major step beyond large language models, announcing the launch of Robostral Navigate, its first robotics-focused AI model. The release signals the company’s growing ambitions in physical AI, following partnerships with major industrial players such as Airbus and BMW.
Designed to help robots move autonomously through real-world environments, Robostral Navigate enables navigation using just a single RGB camera and natural language instructions. Instead of relying on expensive sensor arrays or highly customized hardware, the model is hardware-agnostic, making it suitable for deployment across different robotic platforms.
A Navigation Model That Learns From Experience
According to Mistral, Robostral Navigate can complete complex navigation tasks from a single prompt. Whether operating inside offices, commercial buildings, residential spaces, or outdoor environments, the AI continuously adapts to changing surroundings, including people, obstacles, and layouts it has never encountered before.
A key differentiator is the use of online reinforcement learning after the initial supervised training phase. Mistral says the model continues improving through trial and error using its proprietary CISPO reinforcement learning algorithm. This allows robots to recover from mistakes, explore alternative routes, and develop more robust behaviors instead of simply imitating previously recorded demonstrations.
The company reports that reinforcement learning alone increased the model’s navigation success rate by 3.2%, while emphasizing that performance continues to improve as training progresses.

The facility will be powered by 13,800 NVIDIA GB300 GPUs based on the Grace Blackwell architecture, providing approximately 44 MW of computing capacity and significantly expanding Europe’s AI infrastructure.
