Two Yale Founders Raise $5.1M to Reimagine Social Networking Inside iMessage

A new generation of startups is exploring how AI can reshape the way people connect, and Series is one of the latest examples. Founded by Yale seniors Nathaneo Johnson and Sean Hargrow, the company has raised a $5.1 million pre-seed round to build a social networking platform that operates entirely through iMessage.

Instead of asking users to download another standalone app, Series uses a familiar communication channel. Users text the platform, describe who they are and the type of people they want to meet, and receive curated profiles of relevant connections in return. The experience is built around conversational discovery, where AI helps surface introductions for business networking, friendships, or other personal goals.

The concept reflects a broader shift in digital product design. Traditional platforms were built around feeds, menus, and endless scrolling. Newer AI-native products are increasingly centered on natural language interactions, where users simply state what they need and receive personalized results instantly. For startups, this creates opportunities to rethink crowded categories such as social media, recruiting, dating, and professional networking.

Series also highlights another important market signal: investors continue backing young founders building AI-first companies from day one. The startup already reports adoption across hundreds of university campuses and strong early retention metrics. With fresh funding, the team plans to expand engineering resources and product capabilities from its New York base.

For established businesses, the takeaway is clear. AI is creating room for new interfaces, new user habits, and new competitors. Companies that continue optimizing legacy experiences may soon face challengers building around conversation-first products from the start.
